Crash at the Capitol

A firefighter extinguishes flames from a big-rig truck that crashed into the south steps of the California state Capitol and burst into flames on Tuesday, January 16, 2001. The driver was killed in the crash, which took place just as the Assembly was adjourning for the night after approving a plan to ease the state's energy crisis. The registered driver of the truck is believed to be a 37-year old parolee from Sacramento who had a long-standing grudge against Gov. Gray Davis.
